Are you an adult who is tired of not being understood?

You've probably spent a lot of time trying to get people to understand what you're dealing with — doctors who dismiss you, people in your life who don't quite get it, maybe even therapists who haven't been the right fit.
That gets exhausting.
I work with adults navigating chronic and invisible illness, trauma, and the kind of life complexity that doesn't resolve on anyone else's timeline. I bring over 20 years of clinical experience to this work — and a personal understanding of what it means to live with a body that doesn't always cooperate.
Therapy with me is honest, relational, and collaborative. I'm not going to hand you a a worksheet and call it treatment. I'm interested in your actual life and what gets in the way of living it.
I want to get to know you as a whole human being, not as a diagnosis.
What I Treat

Chronic and Invisible Illness
For adults who are tired of explaining themselves to doctors, loved ones, and a world that doesn't always believe what it can't see.

Trauma and PTSD
For adults carrying experiences that still show up in their bodies, relationships, and daily life on their own timeline, not anyone else's

Eating Disorders in Midlife
For adults navigating a complicated relationship with food and body at 40, 50, 60 and beyond who deserve care that takes their whole life into account.
I believe healing is not about fixing yourself.
It is about understanding yourself and rebuilding trust with the person you've been all along.
Chronic illness, trauma, and complicated relationships with food and body often develop in the context of overwhelming experiences, systems that failed you, and a world that didn't always take you seriously. Healing involves making sense of those patterns with honesty and compassion, while creating a life that actually fits who you are.
Therapy with me is collaborative, direct, and tailored to your whole story not just the parts that are easiest to explain.

Hi, I'm Ruth.
I'm a licensed clinical social worker based in North Carolina with over 20 years of clinical experience. I've worked in eating disorder programs, trauma treatment, and clinical leadership — and I've spent most of that time working with people whose struggles were more complex than any single diagnosis could capture.
I also have my own lived experience with chronic illness, which shapes how I show up in this work in ways that are hard to teach.
If any of what you read above felt like it was written for you — I'd love to connect.
